NET10 House Rules for the Modern Family

You can add an extra family member for as little as $40/month on NET10’s family plan, making it easy to save money and get the whole family on board. Whether your NET10 family consists of friends, roommates, siblings, or cousins, setting a few ground rules will help keep things on the right track.

Here are our top five tips for cell phone etiquette that will keep a harmonious household.

  1. Establish phone-free zones and times.
    • No cell phones at the dinner table, at birthday parties, or while watching a movie together. Whenever you’re spending quality time, leave those phones in another room.
  2. Power down all cell phones at night.
    • Kids playing games on their phones late into the night? Have an enthusiastic friend that likes to text you non-stop? Turning off all of the cell phones in the house after 9 p.m. will help you and your family get a full night's sleep.
  3. Stay on top of costs.
    • Remind your family that downloading wallpapers, ring tones, apps and games may cost additional money and that they should only do so after asking permission.
  4. Encourage your kids to check-in wherever they go.
    • Whether they’re heading to a friend’s house after baseball practice, or flying to Florida for a visit with Grandma, get your kids in the habit of keeping you posted. It’s not only courteous, but will put you mind at ease.
  5. Stop counting minutes.
    • No more cutting that conversation short because you’re running low on minutes.
Whether you’re an individual, a couple, or a family of four, we have the perfect plan for you no matter who’s in your household. Pay by the month or pay as you go, but never, ever pay more than the minutes and data you use. Learn more about our family plans here.

Five Minutes with NET10 Fan Pedro

NET10 customer Pedro caught our eye on Twitter when he mentioned he was using NET10 as a student visiting the US from Chile. We had to hear his story! So we asked him to sit down with us (virtually) and do an interview with Hope, our NET10 community manager.

NET10: What attracted you to NET10?

Pedro: I moved from Santiago, Chile to Charleston, SC for a few months as a student of Civil Engineering and Computer Science. I was looking for an easy, affordable phone to use while in the US and landed upon Net10.

NET10: Why did you choose NET10?

Pedro: A Chilean friend living in California recommended it to me when I got here to Charleston. At first, I went to the closest Dollar General store and got a very cheap phone with a $50 Unlimited Airtime Card. But then I found out that I could use my own smartphone from Chile with a NET10 SIM card from the US! So much better.

NET10: So what did you think?

Pedro: The activation process was incredibly easy, I could even choose my native language and be walked through step by step to get my new phone ready to use in less than 10 minutes. When I changed to my own phone, I just created an account in the NET10 website, activated my own SIM card and added airtime using my debit card. I did everything from my web browser at my place.

NET10: It looks like you travel often. How does your NET10 cell phone come in handy while you’re on the go?

Pedro: Using the unlimited airtime card is extremely handy when visiting new places. I can get in touch with my family and friends anywhere, get recommendations on places to visit, and share my thoughts and experiences without being worried about my minutes.

NET10: Who do you talk or text most with on your NET10 phone?

Pedro: Mostly my American friend Keith. We used to talk over Viber or Skype when I was in Santiago, Chile, and now it’s just a regular phone call or text. Simpler and easier.

NET10:  Would you recommend NET10 to a friend who is considering a prepaid mobile service?

Pedro: Definitely! It’s incredibly easy to get a phone or use your own phone being a foreign visitor. No contracts, no signs, no paperwork, no fees! This is the panacea of mobile networks.

NET10: Panacea? Nice word, we’ll have to start using that. Anything else you’d like to add?

Pedro: The language options NET10 offers made everything easier for me and my friends. And with the wonderful customer service you have online, especially through Twitter, all of my questions were answered within a reasonable time.

Wanna find out more about Pedro’s adventures in Charleston? Follow him at @wachnuei. If you have a NET10 story to share, let us know @NET10_Wireless.

How to Talk to Your Parents About: Peer Pressure

The Williams bought a yellow lab so you followed suit with a poodle and it ate all of your favorite shoes. You got the same sports car the Smiths got and it broke down on the side of the highway. It’s time for the Joneses to start keeping up with you. Fear not, you’ll be the new trend-setter on the block in no time at all.

Be the Smart Family on the Block
Want to reduce your phone bill, get the same service on the same carriers, and still be able to have any phone you’d like? If you answered “Yes,” it’s time to make the change to NET10! Here’s why:

Flexible Plans
Are you an individual? A couple? A family of four? We have the perfect plan for you no matter who’s in your household. Pay by the month or as you go, but never, ever pay more than the minutes and data you use. It’s just $50/month for domestic unlimited or $65/month for international unlimited. And you’ll never have to sign a contract.

Coverage
We've partnered with the country's top carriers to bring you the network coverage you need. The only difference is the cost– you pay less with Net10 because we don't pay to build or maintain all those towers. So you get the same dependable coverage for half the cost.

Phones
Buy one of our Android NET10 Wireless Phones or bring your own and use a NET10 SIM. Either way, use the phone you choose and start calling, texting, surfing, and saving!

Are you sold? Good. Now spread the word to the Williams, the Jones and the Smiths. Feels good to be the trend-setter, doesn’t it?

NET10 Battery Saving Tips

We’ve all experienced it - the dreaded low battery. It will strike at the most inopportune time and has the ability to throw off your day.  Don’t you worry – to cut down on these occurrences; we’ve gone ahead and pulled together five easy and effective tips that will keep you in the green.  Learn them, commit them to memory and you’ll never be running on empty.

Use the tips below so you'll never have to see this again.

1    1.       Turn off your phone

Not using your cell phone? Just turn it off! This is a simple way to conserve battery life. Ideal times to do this would be at right before you go to bed or after business hours. Also, if you usually find yourself in an area with little to no reception (i.e. in a subway station or remote area), be sure to power down.
2
2    2.       Follow the full charge, full discharge method

Don’t charge your cell phone intermittently throughout the day! Wait until you’re it’s about to die and then charge it. It’s very important to let it charge to 100 percent. Be sure to do this on a daily basis.
3
3    3.       Switch from vibrate to ring tone

Did you know the vibrate function uses additional battery power? Try turning your ring tone volume as low as possible instead of resorting to vibrate.
4
4    4.       Avoid using unnecessary apps

Know that you’re running low on juice or it will be a while until your next charge? Avoid browsing the web, using the camera or playing a game.
5
5    5.       Keep those calls short and sweet

Yes- this is an obvious, but very affective tip! Sure, it will take some time convincing friends and family that you’re keeping calls short to save battery life (WARNING: this will come off like an excuse to end a call early), but you’ll be amazed at how long you’ll prolong your battery life.
