NET10 House Rules for the Modern Family

You can add an extra family member for as little as $40/month on NET10’s family plan, making it easy to save money and get the whole family on board. Whether your NET10 family consists of friends, roommates, siblings, or cousins, setting a few ground rules will help keep things on the right track.

Here are our top five tips for cell phone etiquette that will keep a harmonious household.

  1. Establish phone-free zones and times.
    • No cell phones at the dinner table, at birthday parties, or while watching a movie together. Whenever you’re spending quality time, leave those phones in another room.
  2. Power down all cell phones at night.
    • Kids playing games on their phones late into the night? Have an enthusiastic friend that likes to text you non-stop? Turning off all of the cell phones in the house after 9 p.m. will help you and your family get a full night's sleep.
  3. Stay on top of costs.
    • Remind your family that downloading wallpapers, ring tones, apps and games may cost additional money and that they should only do so after asking permission.
  4. Encourage your kids to check-in wherever they go.
    • Whether they’re heading to a friend’s house after baseball practice, or flying to Florida for a visit with Grandma, get your kids in the habit of keeping you posted. It’s not only courteous, but will put you mind at ease.
  5. Stop counting minutes.
    • No more cutting that conversation short because you’re running low on minutes.
Whether you’re an individual, a couple, or a family of four, we have the perfect plan for you no matter who’s in your household. Pay by the month or pay as you go, but never, ever pay more than the minutes and data you use. Learn more about our family plans here.

What Can You Do With 1.5 GB of Data?

We recently made some changes to our AT&T BYOP plan help reduce network congestion and improve reliability. Effective March 1, 2013, NET10 Wireless Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP™) AT&T-compatible SIMs will be limited to 1.5GB of high speed data usage per 30 day period on the Unlimited plan.

What can you do with 1.5 GB?
You can do a lot with 1.5 GB. Take a look:
 Manage Your Data
Think 1.5 GB might not be enough for you? There are lots of easy ways to manage your data so you can stay under 1.5 GB. Here are a few:

  • Connect to WiFi whenever possible to avoid using data entirely. WiFi Finder can help you discover open WiFi networks.
  • Close applications that are not in use (this can save your battery, too!)
  • Turn off auto-updates for apps or change to update over WiFi only.
  • Turn off automatic photo uploading or change the setting to upload on WiFi only.
  • Turn off push “as items arrive” email. Instead, set email account to sync every hour or longer.
  • Browse mobile friendly websites (full webpages use more data to view).
  • Use apps that help you manage data! In Android 4.0 or later, you can set limits and alerts on your usage. Otherwise, you can download 3rd party apps for Android and iOS such as:
    • Onavo – iOS/Android
    • Data Usage - iOS

Is It Time To Switch?
If you’re still worried about your usage, we have good news for you:

We’re offering free SIM cards for customers who want to switch to a T-Mobile SIM.

With this SIM, your data policy will remain unchanged and unaffected. Anyone with a T-Mobile compatible phone or an unlocked phone operating on the 850 and 1900 MHz bands can switch.

Visit net10data.com to learn about more ways to save data usage and for additional details on this change.
